Students in 6th grade are currently reviewing both multiplication and division of decimals.  They have all learned various methods.  For multiplication, students use the standard method, lattice method and partial products methods to find solutions.  Many sixth graders are comfortable and efficient using the lattice method.  The new Common Core Standards require that all students are proficient in the use of the standard method of multiplication and division, which means more instruction and practice in this area is required.  With division students will also work towards solving for more exact answers by replacing remainders with either fractions or decimals.

8th grade students are currently working on their problem solving skills.  They are designing beaded bracelets and calculating costs and profits. The problem is detailed and requires understanding of ratios along with a persistence to move through a complex problem.  The new Common Core Math Standards require students develop math practices that involve rigor.
